Select POP3 for the Account Type
Enter mail.example.com as your Incoming Mail Server – replacing example.com with your own domain name.
Enter mail.example.com as your Outgoing Mail Server – replacing example.com with your own domain name.
For User Name, enter your email address. For example: info@example.com.
Enter your email password

Add POP3 Email Settings in Outlook 2010
Click More Settings.
Click the Outgoing Server tab and then tick My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication. Click Ok.

My Outgoing Server Requires Authentication. Under Advanced, change your SMTP Port to either 26 / 587 (as advised in setup email)
Click Next
Outlook will test your settings. Click Close
Click Finish.

It will display the Account Settings window with Email tab open, if you have configured multiple accounts then all of them will be listed here. You will see the tabbed interface here, by clicking any particular tab you will see its relevant settings for the selected account.

Under the tabs, you will see plenty of  useful options, the New option lets you configure a new email account, the Repair option is used to repair the Outlook 2010 settings (you often need to perform this operation if your email repository size is in GB’s), the Change option lets you modify the settings of any particular email account. If you have configured multiple accounts in Outlook 2010 then you can set any particular account as your default by selecting that account and hitting the Set as Default option. TheRemove option deletes any particular email account.

At the bottom of the above displayed window, you will see the path of the data file. This data file is used to restore your emails, in the case of any disaster situation.

Lets explore more into the Email settings, hit the Change button and it will launch the wizard from where you can view/modify your configured email account settings. At the very first step, you will see User Information, Server Information (Server Type, Incoming and Outgoing Server) and Logon Information( Email account and password).

For more settings of your email account, click the More Settings button and anew dialog window will open. Now, under the General tab you can specify the name that appears on the previous menu’s listing, as well as your organization name and your reply email address.

Under the Outgoing Server tab, you can instruct Outlook 2010 to use authentication when sending emails. When connecting through another service provider, you will want to have this checked. Otherwise it is unnecessary. The Connection tab lets you specify how Outlook 2010 will connect to the internet.

The Advanced tab lets you control the port and encryption settings for your account.

Outlook 2010 represents the most powerful and intuitive email client software with a rich set of features. Even though these settings could be found in Outlook 2007 as well, Microsoft has indeed improved Outlook 2010 to be more user friendly. Enjoy!

Q - What is MySQL?

A - No, users are not allowed to install their own versions of phpMyAdmin.

Instead, this program is offered through the CPanel for you to use. PhpMyAdmin is at the bottom of the MySQL Databases section in the CPanel.

A - No, it cannot be disabled. All the servers have php safe mode enabled due to security reasons.

Q - How do I create a MySQL database?

A - Login to your cPanel then goto –> MySQL Databases –> Add a new database, then create a user. Then all you need to do is add the user into the database.

Q - What is MySql hostname?

A - Your Hostname is: localhost

Q - My PHP program tells me it can’t access the database and gives errors?

A - When you create your MySQL database, first you need create a database by giving it a name. Then you create a user by entering a username and password. For best results keep your database name, database username, and database password at no fewer than 6 and no more than 7 letters or numbers. Then you make sure that you have added the user to the database.

In your script, your database name and your database username must be prefaced by your hosting account username_. Your password, however, stands alone without any prefaces.

For example: If your hosting account username is “blue5″, your database name is “testdb”, your database username is “dbuser”, and your database password is “passwd”, this is how you need to put them in your script:

database server should be: localhost
database name should be written as: dothehos_testdb
database username should be written as: dothehos_dbuser
database password should be written simply as: passwd

Q - How do I connect to my database from my pc or a remote computer?

A - We do not allow database connections to the MySQL server from remote computers. We closed our database server remote access port due to security reasons.

So unfortunately you cannot connect from ODBC/JDBC/Macromedia DreamWeaver applications.

You have to connect to your databases from your website through scripts or the cpanel phpmyadmin tool for managing your databases.

This is the reason that our MySQL server name is always: localhost

Q - Can you explain permissions?

A - Owner = the files users (you)
Group = the files group
Others = Others

Permissions Definitions:
r = read access
x = execute access
w = write access

Numerical Definitions:
r = 4
w = 2
x = 1

You will come to recognize, if you do not already, Chmod is a word used for changing Permissions from within Telnet or your FTP client. Some scripts will tell you to chmod 775 (for example). When using the numeric system, the code for permissions is as follows:

4 + 2 + 1 (rwx) = 7

The first number applies to Owner, the second number applies to Group, and the third number applies to Others. Therefore the first 7 of the chmod 775 tells Unix to change the Owner’s permissions to rxw (because r=4 + w=2 + x=1 adds up to 7, this giving the Owner Read, Write, and Execute Permission. The second 7 applies to the group, this giving the Group Read, Write, and Execute Permission, and the last number 5, refers to Others (4 + 1= 5), giving Others only Read and Execute Permission. The permissions for chmod 775 look like this:

-rwxr-xr-x

Permissions are always broken up into three groups of letters, however if there is a dash, this dash simply means that Permission weren’t given for that particular function. For example, in the chmod 775, Permission to Write was not given to Others.

Remember: the first 3 letters always apply to Owner, the second 3 apply to Group, and the third 3 apply to Others.

Q - What file permissions do I need for my CGI scripts?

A - CGI scripts must be set with executable file permissions, otherwise requests for the script from the web server will result in an “Internal Server Error”.

Scripts that need to be executable should have their permissions set at chmod 755.

This sets the file’s permissions so that the file’s owner may read, write, and execute the file, and anyone else can only read and execute it.

Q - CGI-BIN and Perl scripts not working on my domain?

A - There are lot of reasons for cgi and perl scripts to not work.
You can do small tests on your cgi-bin.
Please see below steps:

1) Create a test.pl file in notepad or any text editor with following code:

print “Content-Type: text/html\n\n”;
print “Cgi-bin and perl test “;

2) Upload the script to the cgi-bin folder in ASCII mode

3) Set the test.pl permissions to 755

4) Type http://www.yourdomain.co.za/cgi-bin/test.pl to test the script.

If you can see the message “Cgi-bin and perl test” then your cgi-bin and perl scripts are working fine on your domain.

You need to check your scripts, permissions and upload mode. All these are very important to run successful scripts.

Q - Where do I put my CGI or PERL scripts?

A - All .cgi and .pl can only be executed in “cgi-bin” at this time. You can find the “cgi-bin” folder in “public_html” folder.

Q - Do my CGI scripts need to be in the “cgi-bin” folder?

A - Please see “Where do I put my CGI or PERL scripts?“

Q - I am having a problem with my CGI script. What do you advise before logging a support ticket?

A - When I activate my CGI program, I get back a page that says “Internal Server Error. The server encountered an internal error or mis-configuration and was unable to complete your request.”

This is generally caused by a problem within the script. Check your script settings again to see that you have entered the correct server information and have set the correct permissions for the script. If this information is correct, you’ll need to contact whoever wrote or is distributing the script for further assistance.

I am being told “File Not Found” or “No Such File or Directory”

Upload your Perl or CGI scripts in ASCII mode, not binary mode.

When I test my Perl script in local mode (by Telnet), I get the following error: “Literal @domain now requires a back slash at myscript.pl line 3, within string. Execution of myscript.pl aborted due to compilation errors.”

This is caused by a misinterpretation by Perl. You see, the “@” sign has a special meaning in Perl; it identifies an array (a table of elements). Since it cannot find the array named domain, it generates an error. You should place a back slash (\) before the “@” symbol to tell Perl to see it as a regular symbol, as in an email address.

I am getting the message “POST not implemented.”

You might be using the wrong reference for cgiemail.
Use the reference /cgi-bin/cgiemail/mail.txt.

Another possibility is that you are pointing to a cgi script that you have not put in your cgi-bin directory. In general, this message really means that the web server is not recognizing the cgi script you are calling as a program. It thinks it is a regular text file.

Q - I uploaded my CGI script. How do I execute the script?

A - Before executing cgi scripts you need to follow the below steps to avoid any errors:

1. You need to upload your script to the “cgi-bin” directory.
2. Make sure you upload them in ASCII mode.
3. Change permissions to 755 for the script (chmod 755).

You can then access your script via http://www.yourdomain.co.za/cgi-bin/scriptname.cgi

Note: You can’t run CGI or PERL scripts when your domain is under propagation.

Q - What is SSI? and how do I use it?

A - Server Side Includes (SSI)

When using a UNIX/LINUX system it is sometimes necessary to enable certain HTML file executables for the purpose of using SSI. SSI is often used to run a cgi script. An include is called with an example such as the following:

After you insert your include, you must mark the HTML file as executable so the server will parse the file. This is done using the two options below:

1. Renaming the file to .shtml: Any file name with the extension .shtml on the server, will be parsed. So, instead of having an index.html file, you would name itindex.shtml. This is the easiest way of enabling ‘includes’.

1. CHMODing the file to 777: With CHMOD 777 you can also mark a file as executable. It is important to only make the files which you want parsed executable. This poses certain security issues, as well as a strain on our resources, as the processor has to work harder to parse a file.

Reasons for Using SSI
SSI is often used to include something into an HTML page. You can insert the contents of one HTML page into another page. An example of a practical usage for this would be to include your e-mail address at the bottom of each page. If you do this as an include, then when your e-mail address changes, you will only have to update it on one page and not your entire web site. Another usage is to call cgi scripts into action. Many counters, clocks, and other scripts are called using SSI. The command used will most likely be provided in the documentation of your cgi script.

Q - Where can I find server paths used in my CGI or PERL scripts?

Q - Which script do I need to use for my Formail application?

A - You can download bnbform.cgi from here. Bnbform.cgi is very easy to setup and more secure than many other scripts. Install the bnbform.cgi on your site as per the installation instructions.

Q - Why am I getting the “Internal Server Error (500)” message?

A - Internal Server Error (500) errors are usually something wrong in the syntax of your script. You should check to make sure you have the path to PERL correct. Currently we are running Perl5 on the servers.

Other most common reasons are:

Q - Do you support FrontPage express?

A - Yes, we do. There are, however, many limitations with FrontPage express that you will not find with FrontPage 2000 or similar. The FrontPage extensions are therefore NOT needed if you are publishing with FP Express.

Q - Do you support FrontPage Extensions? A - Yes, we do support FrontPage 98, 2000 and 2002 server extensions however, depending on the package you have purchased, only the Business and Executive packages supports this option.

Q - How can I have the FrontPage Extensions removed/installed from my account?

A - You can install/remove Frontpage Extensions by logging in to your control panel and clicking on “Frontpage Extensions” Icon. Once in there you will see two choices, (Re)Install Extensions and Uninstall Extensions.

Note: Install FrontPage extensions only if you want to publish site using only FrontPage. You should not use any FTP software after installing Front Page Extensions.

Q - I am getting an Error 500 “Internal Server Error” when trying to view my FrontPage site online.

A - The most common cause is the use of an FTP program other than the file upload feature within FrontPage itself when uploading FrontPage generated webpages. This can damage the FrontPage extensions. Even though the pages may be successfully uploaded, they will not be viewable/translatable by a web browser due to corrupted code. In this case the FrontPage extensions will need to be reinstalled. This can be done in your cPanel.

Q - I installed Front Page extensions and now cgi programs won’t work?

A - FrontPage changes the way your site is managed on the web server. One of the draw backs is that it manages cgi programs in a non standard way and may result in the inability to run programs that are not included as part of FrontPage. This includes most third party shopping carts, page counters, form mail scripts, etc.

The only way to be sure cgi programs will work is to not install front page extensions on your hosting account. Additionally Some front page components will not work even if the Front Page Extensions are installed properly on your site.

Q - I’m getting the error “Root Web Busy” when I try to publish with FrontPage, Why?

A - FTP to your site and remove the “service.lck” file in /public_html/_vti_pvt folder.
This usually happens when an FP session is interrupted before completion.

NOTE: Just to be safe, it would be a good idea to reinstall FrontPage Extensions via your cPanel after you use FTP in your site.

Q - Why am I getting “Error – FrontPage Extensions not Installed”?

A - This error is often seen being reported even when the extensions have been installed. If you get this error, please reinstall the FrontPage extensions from your cPanel.

NOTE: The extensions are easily corrupted. Please use ONLY FrontPage Explorer to update your web site on the server, not FTP.

Q - How do I configure ‘Microsoft Outlook’ to send and receive my mail?

A -

1. In Outlook, click ‘Tools’ -> ‘Email Accounts’.

   

2. Select ‘Add a new email account’ and then click ‘Next’.

   

3. Select ‘POP3′ and then click ‘Next’.

   

4. Enter your email information:

   Your Name: Your name
   Email Address: The email address the messages will be sent from.
   Incoming Mail server (POP3): mail.yourdomain.xyz
   Outgoing Mail server (SMTP): mail.yourdomain.xyz
   User Name: The FULL email address the message will be sent from.
   Password: The password that you used when creating the email address.

   

5. Click on ‘More Settings’ and Select the ‘Outgoing Server Tab’. Check ‘My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication’. Select ‘Use same settings as my incoming mail server’.

   

6. Click ‘Ok’ -> ‘Next’ -> ‘Finish’.

   

Q - How do I configure ‘Outlook Express’ or ‘Microsoft Outlook 2000′ to send and receive my mail?

A -

1. In Outlook Express, go to the ‘Tools’ menu. Click on ‘Accounts’…

   

2. A box will appear. Click ‘Add’ and select ‘Mail’.

   

3. Enter your name as you want it to appear on your emails and click ‘Next’.

   

4. Put in the email address that you created and then click ‘Next’.

   

5. Server type is ‘POP3′ and incoming and outgoing mail servers are mail.yourdomain.xyz (where yourdomain.xyz is your domain name and extension such as .co.za). Click on ‘Next’.

   

6. Next, enter your email address for the Account Name. Enter the password you set for this account.
   Note: Do NOT check the box ‘Log on using Secure Password Authentication’.

   

7. Click ‘Next’ and then click ‘Finish’. After you click ‘Finish’, you should see the following window.
   If not, go to the ‘Tools’ menu, and click on ‘Accounts’. After clicking ‘Accounts’ the window will appear. In this window, click on your domain until it is highlighted, then click on ‘Properties’.

   

8. When the next screen appears, click on the ‘Servers’ tab. Under Outgoing Mail Server, check the box next to ‘My server requires authentication’. Click ‘Ok’.
   Note: You MUST do this step so you can send mail from your domain.

   

Q - Do you scan email for viruses?

A - Yes, all our hosting plans include incoming email virus scanning. Since we cannot guarantee that our software will catch every possible virus or worm that might be sent to you, you should take your own precautions and run your own virus detection software on your own computer as well. Q - How can I enable webmail for an account?

A - All e-mail accounts created from the “Add/Remove accounts” section of your Mail Menu have webmail access. There is nothing you need to do to enable it.

You can access your webmail using the following URL:

Q - Is there any way to change my email password myself?

A - Yes, you can change your email password from within your webmail. You can login to your webmail at http://www.yourdomain.co.za/webmail. After you have logged into your webmail you can then change your password.

Q - Sending email takes a long time and then fails, why?

A - If, whenever you try to send email from a program on your computer like Outlook or Eudora, it takes a long time to authenticate and then fails. The reason is most likely because your attempt to relay has been blocked by your Internet Service Provider (dialup modem, DSL, cable, broadband).

More and more ISPs do not allow their customers to use outgoing mailservers (smtp servers) other than their own, and enforce their customers by blocking access to any remote servers on smtp Port 25.

The solution to this problem is to contact your ISP and ask them what Outgoing Mailserver (SMTP) they want you to put into your mail programs settings.

Another possible cause is that you have a personal firewall running on your computer like Norton Anti-Virus, Black Ice Defender, or Zone Alarm that is not allowing this type of activity. The solution in that case is to either turn off that software, or configure it to allow you to relay mail.

Q - If you are having problems with your email accounts, please read this troubleshooting guide?

A - Most of the email problems are related to improper configuration of email accounts either in Email clients or in cPanel.

If you have any problems sending or receiving emails, please check following things below before logging a support ticket.

1. To send/receive emails Your domain should be fully propagated to our servers.

2. Check if you are using the correct user name and password.

3. Make sure that the Email account has enough disk space to send and receive emails

4. Check if the domain on which you are having email issues hasn’t exceeded the allocated Disk Quota.

5. Check your email configuration. Below are the common settings for sending and receiving mai through outlook:

Display Name: Your Name
Email Address: user@yourdomain.co.za
Incoming Mail Server Type: POP3
Incoming Mail Server: mail.yourdomain.co.za
Outgoing Mail Server: mail.yourdomain.co.za
Account Name: user@yourdomain.co.za
Password: E-mail account’s password

6. Make sure that you have enabled the “My Server Requires Authentication” checkbox in the Email properties >> Server options. You won’t be able to send emails if it is disabled.

7. If you are getting ”SMTP server not responding” errors while sending emails it might be because many ISP’s block SMTP server port 25 due to spamming issues. In these instances, when you try to send mail via your hosting account SMTP server (mail.yourdomain.co.za) you will get a timeout or ‘No response’ Error.

We suggest that you call your ISP and try with your ISP’s SMTP server instead of your mail.yourdomain.co.za.

8. Check if you can login to webmail (http://www.yourdomain.co.za/webmail) and send and receive emails.

Q - Someone is sending spam or viruses that appears to come “from” an address at my domain.

A - This type of abuse happens frequently to many domain name owners, since spammers rarely use their own domain names in SPAM and viruses, they select addresses randomly from other people’s address books.

Sometimes spammers just make up return addresses to put in their spam and it is a coincidence that this time they chose one that happens to belong to you. Sending an email that appears to have come FROM someone who did not send it is known as “forging email”.

Anyone with Outlook or any other email program, can forge whatever address they want in the FROM field of an email, regardless of whether they own the domain name in the address, or whether they have permission to use it and whether the domain name even exists or is valid. There is nothing that the rightful owner of a domain name can do to stop people from sending out emails with an address in the FROM field using someone else’s domain name.

The most annoying part of having someone forge your email address in the FROM field of their outgoing SPAM is that “nondelivery” and other “bounce notifications” will be returned to you because the undeliverable messages appear to come FROM your address.

There is also nothing that a webhost can do to stop or prevent spammers or virus mails from wrongfully claiming that your email address came FROM or was the sender of a piece of spam or email virus.

The most you can probably do about this is to just delete virus mails and the bounce messages that may be coming to you as the purported sender.

We also suggest you do not use catch-all email which usually attracks more spam and undelivered emails.

Q - What e-mail software is the best for retrieving mail from my e-mail accounts?

A - You will need an e-mail client that supports POP3 e-mail. The most widely used programs are Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express and Netscape Mail. You can use either one of them, depending on what browser you are using. Or you can choose from hundreds of other programs also available.

Q - What is the correct URL to login to webmail?

A - You can either login via your control panel, or by visiting http://yourdomain.co.za/webmail/.
You can also use: http://yourdomain.co.za:2095

The username would be the FULL e-mail address for that account, and the password would be the password established for that e-mail account when you created it.

Q - What is the default e-mail address for?

A - The email address with the username the same as your hosting account, is also known as the “catch-all” e-mail address. In other words, if you have no e-mail accounts setup, this will catch every e-mail sent to anything@yourdomain.co.za for your retrieval. This will still work even when other accounts are created, which is especially useful if people incorrectly spell the first half of the e-mail address wrong, since you will still get that ‘sometimes-important’ e-mail. This is the one e-mail account that is setup with your e-mail software with the username only (all other accounts use username@domain.co.za as the username in their mail software.) This is also the only webmail account that you have “instant” access to within your control panel without having to login first.

A - New e-mail accounts can be setup in your control panel by clicking on “Mail” icon –> “Add/Remove accounts”

Q - How do I upload files through FTP when my domain is under propagation?

A - You can still upload files through FTP when your domain is under propagation. You need to use the server IP address instead of ftp.yourdomain.co.za. Configuration when domain under propagation:

HOST NAME: ftp.yourdomain.co.za or 209.151.85.179 (Can be found in your welcome email)
USER ID: username (Can be found in your welcome email)
PASSWORD: your hosting domain password

After you login to your FTP account, make sure that you upload your html, images and scripts etc into your public_html or www directory.

Q - How long will it take for my uploaded html/images to appear on the web?

A - All Frontpage or FTP upload/publishing are INSTANT. Thus you should see your changes on web immediately. You may need to press Ctrl + Refresh for bypassing your browser’s cache to view your changes.

Q - My password is being rejected. What should I do?

A - The most common problem when your password is rejected is that you are either:

• Using the wrong password
• Using and old password
• Using a password with invalid characters.
• Using an incorrect username

Q - What are the settings I need to use for FTP connection?

A - Before connection you need to configure your FTP Client Software with following properties:

FTP Host Name: Your hostname is ftp.yourdomain.co.za or 209.151.85.179
User ID: Your User ID found in your welcome Email.
Password: Your password found in your Welcome Email.

Q - What directory should I upload my web files?

A - You need to upload your html files in the public_html directory. This is the only directory in your web server that is viewable in the internet. You already have an index.html page (with a BlueSeam Under Construction Image) in your public_html Directory as a place holder. Please replace it with your own “index.html”, “index.htm” or “index.php” page.

A - No. You can’t create separate databases, ftp accounts and subdomains on addon domains because “addon domains” is simply a pointer to sub directory of main website “public_html” folder.

However email accounts can be created on addon domains. You can still use FTP, databases from the main account for your addon domains.

Q - Do you offer “shared secure server” or shared SSL access?

A - We offer Shared secure server for all our customers. There is nothing to setup and you can gain access to your secure server at:

For Example: if your user name is “user123″ Your secured URL is:

Q - I lost my cPanel account password, what now?

A - Please log a ticket at http://www.dothehosting.com/contact-us/ ensuring that you include your Full Name, Domain Name and account userid requesting that we reset your password.

Once we have received the ticket we forward your new password to the primary email address registered on your account.

Q - What is Data Transfer (Bandwidth)?

A - Whenever a visitor comes to your site, data is sent from our web servers to your visitor’s computer. This data can be composed of web pages, images, compressed files, or anything else on your site that can be viewed or downloaded by visitors.

Your Email traffic , FTP (File Uploads and downloads) also count towards your bandwidth usage. All this requested data added together equals your total data transfer. The more visitors you have, the higher data transfer limit you’ll need. You can always buy additional data transfer as your site grows.

Q - When I try to access my site it says: “Forbidden, You don’t have permission…”, why?

A - This is caused by many reasons. Most of the common reasons are listed below, it has to be due to one or more of the following:

• Error is caused by not having a home page file inside of your www or public_html directory. Once you upload your homepage file into this directory, the error message will go away and your new home page will load. Our servers recognize a number of file names as home pages: the most common ones are index.html and index.htm.
• The permissions of your public_html directory are not correct. The right permissions are Unix 755.
• You may have uploaded your hompage, index.html or index.htm in uppercase for example like Index.html.
  Please make sure your homepage index file is in lowercase.
